Information for Contributors
The editors of Bible Lands e-review invite submissions on all topics relevant to the collections of the BLMJ. Contributions may relate directly to BLMJ exhibitions or projects, or to objects held in the Museum’s collections, but this is not a requirement for acceptance of an article for publication. Contributions may be made in the areas of archaeology, art history, philology, and all other relevant disciplines. Contributions are welcomed from scholars in all countries, and of all religious and national backgrounds.
Papers should be of the highest academic standard, while at the same time speak to the non-specialist who wishes to expand his or her knowledge of the cultures, disciplines, and artifacts which make up the intellectual content and context of the Museum.
The main languages of Bible Lands e-review will be English and Hebrew, but articles will be accepted in all major international languages including Arabic, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, and Japanese, and can include black and white or color images, and other multimedia content. Authors will make available a short abstract of their contribution in English, which will be included with their article, and translated into Hebrew by the editors as needed.
Article Format and Contents
Articles should normally be of interest to experts and the public alike, and should be written with the minimum amount of professional technical terminology possible. If needed, authors should include a short glossary of terms with their submission. Being an online e-journal, Bible Lands e-review has no set limit for the length of articles, nor limits the number of illustrations that may accompany each submission. However, the author bears the sole responsibility for obtaining the necessary permissions and copyrights needed for the publication of the materials presented in his/her article.
Articles are expected to be written in academic format, with full bibliography, but a minimum number of footnotes or endnotes. Short side-bars may be incorporated into the article instead of notes. Bibliography and citations must be presented in a commonly accepted standard format, and be used in a consistent manner throughout the article.
All text must be submitted as an MSWord document with an accompanying copy in PDF format. All photographs and illustrations should be submitted in electronic form as individual JPG, TIFF, or PDF files.
Authors are requested to provide a paragraph biographical sketch with their submission.
Submission Procedure and the Refereeing Process
There are no deadlines for submission of articles, or set publication schedules. Submissions are judged by the editorial board of the journal, and in certain cases by external readers. Articles may be accepted as is, or returned to the author for revision.
Upon acceptance, the author will formally authorize publication of his/her article by means of a “letter of intent” to the editors of Bible Lands e-review. The editors reserve the right to make minor revisions of language and formatting. Authors will be sent one set of “virtual proofs” for correction before the article is posted to the e-journal. Articles will be posted as soon as possible following formal acceptance for publication, and assigned to the then current volume of the journal. Bible Lands e-review does not normally accept articles which have been previously published elsewhere. However, the Editorial Board will consider review articles, and short submissions which summarize longer scholarly works, or translations of important articles into Hebrew or English from other languages. The decisions of the Editorial Board regarding acceptance or rejection of a submission for publication are final.
